National Taiwan Ocean University Library Reading Regulations

Latest Revised and Passed by the Library and Information Technology Committee on December 10, 2014

Section 1. The Office of Library and Information Technology (referred to as LIT) established regulations to give full play to the functions of the university library, maintain the tranquility and cleanliness of the reading environment, and protect the rights and interests of the readers to use the resources and equipment.

Section 2. NTOU faculty, students, and people outside the school are required to use their cards to enter the library:

  1. The faculty and students of the NTOU can enter the library with the service card and student card issued by the school.
  2. Adjunct teachers, assistants, retirees, family members of faculty and staff, and cooperative libraries can enter the library with the certificates issued by the LIT.
  3. Alumni can enter the library with the alumni card issued by the Alumni Center or the library card issued by the LIT.
  4. Off-campus people (must be at least 15 years old) can use the guest card to enter the library. In securing the guest card, they must present and exchange their national ID card, driver's license, health insurance card (photograph required), passport, or valid senior high school student ID card.

Section 3. Since there are limited reading seats in our school's library, outsiders that will be allowed to enter and use the facility simultaneously will also be limited. If there are more people from outside than the number limit, they should line up and wait for their turn. The issued guest card should be kept properly. If the guest loses it, it should be immediately reported to the Library Circulation Desk and pay a handling fee of NT$100. When the guest leaves the library, they should return the guest card in return for their provided ID card. Guest cards not exchanged before the day's closing time will be regarded as lost. A handling fee of NT$100 must be paid before the ID card can be returned. The Library is not responsible for keeping all kinds of ID cards not exchanged beyond the allowable time for keeping.

Section 4. Readers should take good care of the books and materials and various equipment. There shall be no contamination, damage, or unauthorized removal. Once the library finds out about the above situation, except if the case can be categorized as a liability to pay compensation, it will be reported to the school’s authority or the police for handling.

Section 5. Readers should pay attention to wearing neat clothes and maintaining the quietness of the area. Using mobile phones that can cause distractions are not allowed in public places. Readers are not allowed to engage in behavior that affects others' reading and are not allowed to use power without authorization. LIT has the right to immediately ask that person to leave the library if there is a violation. If the circumstances are serious, it may be reported to the relevant unit for handling.

Section 6. Readers should keep the library clean and tidy, making sure not to discard paper scraps arbitrarily. Eating, drinking, and smoking are strictly prohibited. Only bottled water (including mineral water) is allowed for consumption, while food, other beverages, and animals/pets are not allowed into the library. Anyone who violates the above regulations will be suspended for a month from using the library facilities and borrowing books.

Section 7. The library's computer provides readers access to the library catalog and database. Readers cannot browse pornographic websites, play computer games, etc. Anyone who violates the above regulations will be suspended for a month of their rights to enter the library and borrow books.

Section 8. Readers are not allowed to move or reserve seats in the library arbitrarily and are responsible for their personal belongings. They should make sure that they are secured and should be taken out with them when leaving. The library is not responsible for the custody of any personal belongings left inside the building.

Section 9. Books should be placed in the book cart after using them; library staff will put them back on the shelves again. Likewise, after reading the newspaper, it should be returned to its original place; newspapers cannot be taken out of the library.

Section 10. These regulations shall be implemented after the approval of the Library and Information Technology Committee.
